Chapter 137
1עַל־נַהֲרוֹת בָּבֶל שָׁם יָשַׁבְנוּ גַּם־בָּכִינוּ בְּזׇכְרֵנוּ אֶת־צִיּֽוֹןBy the rivers of Babylon, there we sat, sat and wept, as we thought of Zion.Al-naharot bavel sham yashavnu gam-bachinu bezochrenu et-tzion
2עַֽל־עֲרָבִים בְּתוֹכָהּ תָּלִינוּ כִּנֹּרוֹתֵֽינוּThere on the poplars we hung up our lyres,Al-aravim betochah talinu kinoroteynu
3כִּי שָׁם שְֽׁאֵלוּנוּ שׁוֹבֵינוּ דִּבְרֵי־שִׁיר וְתוֹלָלֵינוּ שִׂמְחָה שִׁירוּ לָנוּ מִשִּׁיר צִיּֽוֹןfor our captors asked us there for songs, our tormentors, for amusement: “Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”Ki sham sheelunu shoveynu divrey-shir vetolaleynu simchah shiru lanu mishir tzion
4אֵיךְ נָשִׁיר אֶת־שִׁיר־יְהֹוָה עַל אַדְמַת נֵכָֽרHow can we sing a song of GOD on alien soil?Eych nashir et-shir-Adonai al admat nechar
5אִֽם־אֶשְׁכָּחֵךְ יְֽרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם תִּשְׁכַּח יְמִינִֽיIf I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand wither;Im-eshkachech yerushalam tishkach yemini
6תִּדְבַּֽק־לְשׁוֹנִי לְחִכִּי אִם־לֹא אֶזְכְּרֵכִי אִם־לֹא אַעֲלֶה אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם עַל רֹאשׁ שִׂמְחָתִֽיlet my tongue stick to my palate if I cease to think of you, if I do not keep Jerusalem in memory even at my happiest hour.Tidbak-leshoni lechiki im-lo ezkrechi im-lo aaleh et-yerushalam al rosh simchati
7זְכֹר יְהֹוָה לִבְנֵי אֱדוֹם אֵת יוֹם יְֽרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם הָאֹמְרִים עָרוּ עָרוּ עַד הַיְסוֹד בָּֽהּRemember, O ETERNAL One, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem’s fall; how they cried, “Strip her, strip her to her very foundations!”Zechor Adonai livney edom et yom yerushalam haomrim aru aru ad haysod bah
8בַּת־בָּבֶל הַשְּׁדוּדָה אַשְׁרֵי שֶׁיְשַׁלֶּם־לָךְ אֶת־גְּמוּלֵךְ שֶׁגָּמַלְתְּ לָֽנוּFair Babylon, you predator, a blessing on the one who repays you in kind what you have inflicted on us;Bat-bavel hashdudah ashrey sheyshalem-lach et-gemulech shegamalt lanu
9אַשְׁרֵי שֶׁיֹּאחֵז וְנִפֵּץ אֶֽת־עֹלָלַיִךְ אֶל־הַסָּֽלַעa blessing on the one who seizes your babies and dashes them against the rocks!Ashrey sheyochez venipetz et-olalayich el-hasala
